Pinkalicious! – Entry #9

Oh my gosh I love my bed!!! Three nights at home and we are feeling, but not looking normal.  I have discarded any makeup and salt streaks have taken its place.  There is so much love and so many sweet moments with my family….so many.  Reality comes back and there I am just adding another streak down my face.  Everyday is just bringing such deep emotions and topics that I could never have imagined having to discuss with our five year old.  We are so glad to be by her side and face these challenges with her.  I just wish she never had to embark on this journey.  Life will be sweeter in the end and that will keep us going Diamond style.

Our very unique five year old daughter likes to be pink and pretty!  Who would have known?  We have been wondering how to broach the topic of loosing her gorgeous locks.  No time is the right time, but today became the day of Hair!  After dropping her little sis off at school I told Ollie we were going to read a book together, “The Famous Hat” by Kate Gaynor.  It told the story of a little 5 year old boy who was diagnosed with cancer. It talked about meeting the doctor, drawing labs, intravenous access that is placed and why.  Olive was smiling through to this point because she was relating to everything! The next part started to talk about ….”and one day my hair started to fall out”.  Time stopped.  Olive turned an looked me straight in the eye and asked “my hair is not going to fall out?”  It has been so long since I have had to embark on such a raw and real of a question that I knew was going to cause someone pain. We had a moment I will never forget.  In the end Olive embraced what was to come.  I love her.

Once the “talk” was done we talked FUN!  I told Ollie about the day at the salon that was planned!( thanks Gilly Bear)!

We were to arrive at 2pm and ladies were going to roll out the red carpet for her! (like she knows what that means).  She could have what ever she wanted.  Can anyone guess what she said?

We arrived promptly with Ollie skipping down the sidewalk.  The salon was Plum Organics. Danika the owner, Olive’s stylist Rika, and Christina another stylist embraced Ollie like they knew her and were so excited to be apart of her journey.  Once they got her settled and asked what would you like done today?  Olive proudly says PINK!  Pink “goo” was appplied and we were able to just relax and laugh throughout the experience.  Erin (Gilly Bear) arrived in the end so Olive could show off her new locks.  My goodness was she proud.

What started out as a negative ended as a super positive.  Another glimpse of how this cancer rollercoaster will ride.  We are in it and ready for the highs and lows and are so honored to let loose and enjoy the ride with our family.

Olive you amaze us!
