Home Sweet Home – Entry #6

It’s our last day at the hospital. Ollie is slated to be discharged tonight around 9:00. The nurses and Doctors here can not believe what a cool and calm little girl she has been. She has another dose of Chemo today around 3:00 which takes a couple of hours then we will get ready to head home. The next 29 days are the most crucial for her. Germs are the enemy. Because her white blood count will be down her immune system will be very susceptible to infection. Any sign of fever wil mean a trip back to the hospital. The overall treatment will take place for 2  1/2 years but normalcy should start to kick in a little bit by Septemberish.

Yesterday Ollie had a couple of friends come over for a visit which really cheered her up. As if she was not cheery already. It was a mellow day with no procedures and just relaxation. She is really getting used to lots of movies and tearing through the hallways on a tricycle. I may put an indoor track inside the house for her.

We are looking forward to getting home and figuring out some sort of routine for the upcoming month. Although there are big challenges that lie ahead we are all in a good place now. Feeling positive, strong, happy, and relieved that things are moving in the right direction.
