She’s Home!!! – Entry #7

Our last day spent was a bit long and drawn out.  With the hopes of going home after another intense infusion, the day seemed to linger on.  We finally got checked back into the pedi ICU where Olive would receive an infusion over two hours and then be monitored for any reactions for another two.  At 10pm we all walk hand and hand out of the hospital with visions of home dancing in our heads.

Walking through the doors Adam and I jump into our roles on how to protect and gain some control over life and attempt to stabilize what just shook us to our core.  I immediately got Olive into the tub to rid of any germs that could be and Adam had completely taken apart our clothes washer into 20 pieces to rid of any mold.  We had officially lost it!

Olive was asleep before she hit the pillow only to wake the next morning to a very excited little sis! They quickly got into their routine of fun and play and a glimpse of normalcy filled our hearts.  Quinn left for school later that morning and Olive was home.  She had a fun trip to the park with pop pop but was reserved per his report.  That day I found her multiple times in quiet play looking at family photos, playing with her new patient doll, Elena. Administering meds and redressing her wounds.

My little girl had grown up.  Not on her terms and was now reflecting quietly on what she had just experienced.  She has meds to take 2 times a day with growing resistance.  Each hurdle she finishes we celebrate.  She is forced into this as her new normal and is doing it as graceful as she can.  I am amazed at her perseverance and will continue to be.  Change has just begun.

Thank you for all your words and inspiring thoughts.  It keeps us going. One step at a time.
